MATT MILLER Cliche
A Jonesboro native, artist Matt Miller is a University of Arkansas graduate with a bachelor’s degree in finance and a minor in marketing, but he is following his heart with the creation of his art. He stated, “Art is giving in to change, and not yielding to conformity. Never let the past be your present, nor the present be your end.”
“This piece was a commission and collaboration for Ingrid Brown. Through a deep conversation about energies, life and philosophy, we came up with the title, Cliché. A convex mirror with many organically arranged textures forming an “O” is the focal point of the painting. The arrangement represents Oma’s Universe, which is German for grandmother. In the painting her three children are represented by copper plating, along with many clichés that represent personal insights, which are hidden throughout the painting. Through purposeful symbolism mixed media, Ingrid and I created a painting that she will be able to reflect on for a lifetime. This painting was created to symbolize love, life and liberation.”
