This Easter you can have your cake and contribute to a worthy cause as The Sisterhood of the Traveling MuuMuus, the official Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure team sponsored by Occasions Publishing Group, debuts its newest fundraiser.
Members of The Sisterhood are teaming up with Loretta’s Catering for its “Cake for a Cause” fundraiser this spring. Through March 31, team members will accept orders for Loretta’s Luscious Strawberry Cake. The cakes will be boxed and available for pick up April 8 and 9 at the Occasions office, 274 Southwest Drive. The cakes will be available just in time for Easter weekend, but may be frozen for later use. Customers may also ask for a gift certificate if they wish to have the cake for a later date.
A longtime favorite of Loretta’s loyal customers, the custom-made strawberry cake will serve 16-18 people, said Kathy Cardwell of Loretta’s.
“It’s a round, two-layer cake made with real strawberries in the batter,” said Kathy Cardwell of Loretta’s. “It has buttercream frosting made with pure almond and pure vanilla. Cakes may ordered with either white or pink icing.”
For the second consecutive year, The Sisterhood of the Traveling MuuMuus won first place in the public relations/media division last year, said Audrey Watkins, president of Occasions Publishing Group.
“Although we are pleased to be able to raise any amount of money to help find a cure for breast cancer, fall is always a hectic time for everyone. We wanted to start earlier this year and try not to scramble to raise funds at the last minute before the annual Race for the Cure in Little Rock held each October,” Watkins said.
The partnership with Loretta’s will allow The Sisterhood team to make the Luscious Strawberry Cake available to the community in time for Easter celebrations while raising money for a worthy cause.
“We are excited about teaming up with Loretta’s for this new fundraiser,” Watkins said. “Loretta’s has a reputation in Jonesboro for quality food that includes delicious desserts. Their contribution to this fundraiser will allow our team to donate $25 to the Komen Foundation for each cake sold.”
The 16th Annual Susan G. Komen Arkansas Race for the Cure is set for Oct. 17 in Little Rock.
