i'm dreaming of a retro christmas
by Brittney Guest

Nearly everyone has nostalgic holiday pieces in their home that represent Christmas past. This month, we asked Occasions’ Art Director Brittney Guest to share a few ideas on ways to incorporate the best of your retro collection with today’s holiday decor for a look that is merry and bright, and filled with your favorite memories.

Shiny & Bright
Look for ornaments in vintage shapes and textures, like starbursts and saturated metallics. These ornaments have all the looks of the Shiny Brite baubles of the past, but with the added bonus of being made of shatterproof plastic.

Sequins & Felt
The combination of felt and sequins is a hallmark of vintage Christmas decor. Handmade ornaments can add a whimsical touch no matter your decorating theme.

Tree Skirts
Don’t forget the tree skirt. Cover those cords and tree stands with a kitschy cover. Even better if it’s one your mom made out of felt and covered in sequins. There are quite a few vintage tree skirt kits like this one available online, if you feel inspired to create your own.

Bottle Brush Trees
Update the traditional bottle brush tree with new neon colors and a streamlined silhouette. Display a few vintage-inspired miniature ornaments around your collection for extra festive flair!

Ornamental Centerpiece
Out of room on the tree? Fill a clear vase with an assortment of miniature ornaments for a new twist on ornament display.

Pink Alumninum Christmas Tree
If you’re more of a Lucy than a Charlie Brown, this is the tree for you. Nothing says retro more than an alumninum Christmas tree. A pre-lit rose gold tinsel tree brings this trend into the 21st century.
